Cardamom Seeds

Vyas Exim sources Cardamom from Kerala, a southern state of India is the main producer of cardamom in India and contributes around 60% of total Indian production with other state being Sikkim as the next state in terms of production.

The cardamom is native to India & Indonesia and grown in tropical & sub-tropical climate zones.

Cardamom is of the ginger family known as ‘Elettaria Cardamomum- Green Cardamom’.

Cardamom has 3 varieties :

• Black Cardamom
• Green Cardamom
• White Cardamom

Is broadly grouped into two categories :

• Small Cardamom (Chhota Elaichi) or True Cardamom.
• Large cardamom (Bara Elaichi.)

Cardamom is the ‘Spice Queen’ and is an expensive spice ranked after Saffron & Vanilla spices.

Medicinal Uses

• It has several Medicinal & Therapeutic uses.
• It is high in proteins & vitamins like A, B & C and has low-fat content.
• The seed has a volatile oil content of ~10%.
• It is often chewed after meals as it is digestive and improves appetite.
• Cardamom seeds are also the basis of medicinal preparations for indigestion and flatulence problems.
